Tom Parkin

Tom’s love of the outdoors started at an early age, learning navigation and campcraft. Whilst still in his teens, he was climbing Scottish peaks in winter conditions, and walked the West Highland Way alone.

Tom attended Sheffield University.  After gaining his degree in Modern Foreign Languages, he balanced a career in commerce with alpine trips abroad, and during the 90’s his career switched to teaching outdoor education and sharing his love of the mountains. In the process he also gained a Diploma in Sports Psychology and several Assessor qualifications as well as becoming a First Aid Instructor.

In 2000, in order to realise his dream, Tom became self-employed and began to develop a client base for his mountaineering business. He has worked as a freelance instructor for several outdoor organisations, leading expeditions to places such as Morocco, India, Argentina, Mexico and Tanzania, as well as teaching all aspects of mountaineering, in the UK and Europe.

Tom is currently the Technical Advisor for Northumberland County Council, and offers technical advice to other mountaineering companies.

He is a fully qualified Mountain Instructor, holding the MIC qualification. He is also a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors, the Mountain Leader Training Association and the Union of International Mountain Leaders, and is a fluent French speaker.
